Welcome to Red Barn Kennel, where our focus is on raising good quality puppies that you would be proud to own.
We focus on raising puppies that we would want to buy ourselves. We donate about 80% of our days to our
dogs and puppies. We offer a
1-year guarantee on our AKC registered puppies.
Red Barn Kennel is owned and operated by Fred and Sharon Loney. We spent 35 years in the city of Des Moines,
Iowa. Then we decided to move to the country and we started raising Boxers in 1999. We found the
Shiba Inu and fell in
love with them and then the Papillon. We are located 3 1/2 miles east of Chariton, Iowa, that is in the south central
part of Iowa.
We are raising different breeds of dogs, Boxer, Papillon, Shiba
Inu, Pug, and Pembroke Welsh Corgi. All of our dogs are AKC registered, played
with daily, and well socialized when they leave to there new adopted homes. We have several adult dogs, all of
which we call our pets. Look in our Photo Album to see some of our pictures of our
Boxer, Papillon, Shiba Inu, Pug, and Pembroke Welsh
Corgi playing. Please visit our Puppies page to search for
available puppies.
If you would like additional information or pictures of a certain color of dog or puppy, please e-mail or give us a call.
The picture on this page is Dewey’s Dr. Zeus and Sharon’s Little Miss
Dolly. These two dogs were in our very first litter.
We saved them back because we thought they would make a nice addition to our kennel.
The Boxer is a medium-sized dog. The Boxer is considered a “people dog” adapting well to other dogs and children.
He is not an aggressive dog, but does make a good guard. The Boxer is a very playful, affectionate, friendly, headstrong,
and has a high-energy level. The Boxer is a very loyal playmate for children, but he does require socialization with other
pets. The Boxer makes a very good watch/guard dog, he is wary with strangers. The
Boxer has a low maintenance hair
coat with nails needing regular care.
The Papillon is small sized toy dog. The Papillon is a friendly toy dog of fine-boned structure. The
Papillon is a big
dog in a little body; don’t let the size fool you. The Papillon is a very smart dog and his energy level is high. The
Papillon loves children and other pets. The Papillon makes a very good watchdog, but he is not a good guard dog due to
his size. The Papillon has medium maintenance hair coat.
The Shiba Inu is a small sized dog. The Shiba Inu has an outgoing personality and good nature. The
Shiba Inu needs
consistent and firm training and he will respond well. The Shiba Inu is another large dog in a small body.
Shiba Inu
are loyal and most can sense what you are feeling. The Shiba Inu needs human interaction and should not be left alone in
an unfenced yard, he needs a fenced yard to run and exercise. Shiba’s have a unique “Shiba Cry”, barking only when they
have reason. They love their toys; play time, and quiet time with their person (you).
Shiba Inu has a low maintenance hair
coat, except when shedding; their nails need regular care. The Shiba Inu is great with kids if they have been raised with them.
The Pug is a member of the Toy Group, not weighing more than
20 lbs when full grown. The Pug is outgoing, playful and
possess charm. The Pug is even-tempered, adapts easily to
any situation and is a good dog for apartment or for large yards. The Pug
is one that wants to please his owners. Great care must be taken
around the eyes of a Pug because they are easily
scratched.
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the smallest dog in the Herding
Group. The height should be under 12 inches and weight under 30 lbs
when full grown. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is low to the
ground but very sturdy. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi does shed
quite a bit and needs brushing weekly. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is
a happy, obedient and confident dog. They are wonderful for a family
pet, showing or working as a herd dog. Pembroke Welsh Corgis
can be Red, Sable, Fawn, Black and Tan. All colors can have white
markings.
Take a look at our dogs and puppies and let us know what you think.
